Spatial Scores is a series of audiovisual installations based on different divisions of the octave: six whole-tone steps, twelve chromatic semitones and twenty-four microtonal steps.
Canvas-on-wood boards function as spatial markers, sound points and fragments of a score. The projection is not a background image: moving ghost-like doubles of the boards pass across the physical objects and correspond to sound events.
The work depends on precise calibration. The spacing, angles and distance between the boards and the projector have to align exactly; otherwise the projected image no longer hits the objects. Each part can function independently, but together the three installations form a modular ensemble between painting, object, projection, sound and space.
