Light Images

LED Painting / Lichtbilder, installation view, Galerie Raum mit Licht, Vienna, 2008.

Light Images brings together early works made with light, long exposure, RGB colour and photographic printing. The series began with experiments using moving light sources and developed into wall arrangements, Lambda prints and later image inversions.

Colour is not applied directly to a canvas, but produced through light, exposure, movement and time. The image becomes a trace of an event: a temporary constellation of coloured beams, reflections and optical residues.

The works move between painting, photography and moving image. In the LED Painting installation, individual light images form a larger wall structure. In the glass image, RGB light behaves almost like a physical substance entering, touching and bending around an object. In the later Weiss auf Schwarz works, light-based and screen-based logic is translated into printed images, inversions and object-like fragments.

This project forms an early connection between painting, digital colour systems, photography and moving image. Light becomes a painting tool, while the image behaves like a record of movement, duration and colour.
